Group and Centre-Based Activities

Participating in a group activity can improve physical and emotional wellbeing, forging connections and a sense of community.

These supports are designed to provide people with disabilities with opportunities to engage in social, recreational, and educational activities within a group setting. These activities can take place either in a centre-based environment or within the community.

Centre-based activities typically involve attending a structured program or activity within a dedicated facility, such as a community centre or day program.

These activities can be diverse and may include things like art classes, music therapy, exercise programs, cooking classes, or games and social activities. The aim of these activities is to help participants develop new skills and a sense of connection.

Community-based activities, on the other hand, involve participating in activities within the broader community. This might include going on outings to local museums, parks or attending community events, such as festivals or fairs. Community-based activities aim to help participants develop their independence, build social skills, and participate in recreational and social activities alongside their peers.
